At the Humane Society of Concord, our primary focus is saving the lives of animals most at risk—those in overcrowded animal control facilities facing euthanasia. As such, our facilities, Ruth's Memorial and Princeton's Meow, are not open intake and do not accept owner-surrendered pets directly from the public. That said, we are always committed to the animals we adopt out and will accept them back in accordance with the return policy signed at the time of adoption.
If you have found a stray dog or cat and it has been less than 72 hours, it must be surrendered to the county animal control facility for the county where it was found. For our area, that facility is Cabarrus County Animal Shelter, which can be reached at (704) 920-3288.
While we may not be able to take your pet, we encourage you to explore the organizations and resources listed below. You can also contact your county's animal control/shelter to set up an owner surrender appointment.
Please take responsibility by exhausting all other options before making the difficult decision to surrender your pet.
