Whether you have a passion for dogs or a soft spot for cats, there are exciting opportunities awaiting you! There are volunteer opportunities at both our dog adoption facility, Ruth's Memorial, and our cat haven, Princeton's Meow.
Are you ready to wag tails and make a difference at Ruth's Memorial, our dog adoption facility? We're on the lookout for dedicated volunteers aged 16 and over to join our pack!
All volunteers, regardless of age, must attend a Volunteer Orientation before starting their first shift. Volunteers interested in dog walking will then set up sessions to shadow with a senior dog walker. Don't worry – we'll make sure you're ready to jump in and help our dogs feel loved!
Volunteer to assist our Kennel Techs (age 16 and up):
Help out with essential tasks like cleaning kennels, feeding, watering, and general housekeeping duties such as dishes and laundry. It's a paw-some way to learn and contribute and for young volunteers to make an impact!
For Volunteers 18 and Over:
Want hands on directly with our pups? Join our dog walking program and take our dogs for walks around our grounds. It's exercise and socialization all in one! It's an exciting opportunity to form bonds with our canine residents and make a direct impact on their journey to finding forever homes.
*Next Volunteer Orientation scheduled for September 26th at 11:00am. Call to schedule!

Yes! Whether you're volunteering with dogs or cats, you will be in an animal shelter facility. It's important to remember to wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty! You'll be coming into contact with cleaning chemicals, such as bleach, as well as animal waste.
*If you are volunteering at an offsite event, it is required that you wear an HSOC T-Shirt.
For the RMS location: Once an individual has completed the in-person orientation, they are able to schedule shifts based on what avenue they choose. Volunteers interested in dog walking will need to schedule a time to shadow a senior dog walker, which can be done by our volunteer coordinator. Volunteers interested in assisting the Kennel Technicians can choose between two shifts which are: 9:00am-12:30pm and 3:00pm-6:00pm.
For the Princeton's Meow location: Shifts are through the week days during open hours (5:30pm-7:30pm).
